In this two-day workshop we begin as we always do with bookbinding basics: understanding about paper grain, it's integrity to the finished book, and getting acquainted with a small handful of tools you need for bookbinding in general.
Part of getting acquainted with creating pages for your book, you will take several larger size sheets of paper, and fold them into smaller and smaller sizes until we have the desired size for a book, creating deckle (hand-torn) edges for our pages - an essential beginning for any handmade book!
We will cut board using a professional board-cutter. And glueing beautiful Japanese fabrics and papers, creating an aesthetically pleasing cover.
At the end of this class you will have one lovely finished hardcover case-bound book and the knowledge and experience to make more.
Our studio is light-filled, airy, & organized, including an extensive library of books about bookbinding, calligraphy, & drawing, for your musings.
We look forward to sharing our love of paper and making books with you in this two-day workshop!
